Hundreds of faithful Murcia went to the Cathedral on Sunday morning to meet their patron saint on the day of her solemnity.
The Blessed Virgin of the Fuensanta crossed the interior of the cathedral temple, in a cloister procession, before beginning the celebration of the Eucharist.
The banner of the ladies of the Fuensanta Court opened the procession, followed by the Knights of Fuensanta, the Cabildo Catedralicio, priests and the image of "La Morenica";
closing the procession the Bishop of Cartagena, Mons. José Manuel Lorca Plans;
the Archbishop emeritus of Burgos, Bishop Francisco Gil Hellín;
the Bishop of Idiofa (Democratic Republic of the Congo), Bishop José Moko;
the secretary general of the Bolivian Bishops' Conference and Auxiliary Bishop of La Paz, Mgr Aurelio Pesoa;
and the Dean of the Cathedral, Juan Tudela.
The Bishop began his homily by giving thanks to God "who has given us Mary as our mother."
He emphasized that to live as a Christian is to "complicate life, surrender to do the will of God, even in adverse environments," but always having as an example the Virgin Mary, because it "hangs."
"No one better than she," said Bishop Lorca, "has taught us the path of obedience and generous surrender to God."
He also invited those present to take advantage of the days of the image of the Virgin of Fuensanta in the Cathedral, "to speak out from the silence of our being with a sincere prayer and to review what we lack to imitate."
The Bishop invited the conversion, with a total surrender to God, remembering a prayer of Carlos de Foucauld.
"Another year I ask again what I ask you for this holiday," added Bishop Lorca Plans, "bring to Jesus our prayers, which have been addressed to you by each of the faithful who have passed before your blessed image;
assistance to this Region;
bless Murcia, its rulers, families, the elderly and sick, those who work for a better world. "
The singing in unison of the Hymn to the Fuensanta and a "viva!" To the Virgin were the closing of a feast that precedes the ascent of the patron saint to its sanctuary, that will be tomorrow Tuesday, September 12.
At 7:00 a.m. will be celebrated the Eucharist, presided by the Bishop, in the Cathedral, which will follow the pilgrimage to the mountain.
