The director of the Chair of Cinema of the Catholic University San Antonio, doctor in Modern History José María Sesé, will approach, with a conference that will offer in the Museum of the Roman Theater Cartagena on Tuesday, September 12, to the more than 1,000 films that are have filmed about ancient Rome.
The author, among other publications, of the book "El Cine en 111 films" and professor at the UCAM, underlined that "we will review the 30 best films and series that have been made of this subject, analyzing which are more similar to reality of customs, history and image, for example of the armies of that time. "
In this sense Sesé has indicated that in this cultural event, organized a few days before the second Punic Wars are remembered in Cartagena, "we will explain that it is the Peplum, a genre that encompasses cinematographic films set in classical antiquity. of low budget of poor quality, especially extended in Italy ".
The UCAM professor explained that "the best Roman films are made by English directors" and has highlighted films such as the beginning of Gladiator, as well as the role of films about the life of Christ, who are also linked to this type of the seventh art.
Activity open to the public
