The councilman of Cambiemos murcia Nacho Tornel has asked the Government team for the measures it intends to take in view of the impact that the rehabilitation works of the old Post Office building can have on the archaeological remains found both on the site and in the annexes to this property.
The building, located on Calle Pintor Villacís and protected by the Special Plan of the Historic Artistic Complex of the City of Murcia, was acquired in 1998 by auction by the Orenes Group, which recently announced that it will become a gastronomic market and leisure.
In this space, and in other annexes to the same, there is an anti-aircraft refuge of the Civil War and archaeological remains of the Greater Alcázar - also Nassir or Qibir of Mursiya and the palace of government of Ibn Mardanish, as well as the wall of the medina .
The University of Murcia (UMU) was able to verify the archaeological wealth in the area after excavations in different plots.
In addition, there are the remains of an underground antiaircraft shelter built for the protection of the civilian population before a possible attack in the warlike conflict lived in Spain between 1936 and 1939.
The municipal formation, at the request of its sectoral group of Culture and Heritage, has also requested the archaeological reports on the presence of these remains in the area, in order to know in detail the relation of the existing patrimony and thus to monitor the proper protection of the same.
