UMU professor Pedro Lozano, Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK), the oldest chemistry society in the world (05/09/2017)

Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and dean of the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Murcia since 2014, Pedro Lozano, chosen as Fellow by the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK), the oldest chemistry society and one of the most the world.

This recognition, which is granted only to those members who have made an important contribution to the advancement of the chemical sciences, is the most important category with which it is possible to distinguish scientists belonging to this Anglo-Saxon society.

The one who has been deputy dean of the Faculty of Chemistry for more than 20 years and current dean considers that this important award not only supposes a cause of joy for him, but also brings prestige to the University of Murcia as an institution.

"In the scientific field, where institutions are so competitive, and where there are no countries or borders at present, I consider it a pride to recognize the work we do at the UMU."

Likewise, on a personal level, Lozano believes that "it is a huge accolade for research that has resulted from many years of effort."

The great illusion maintained and the perseverance of the day to day together with the team of young people who has forged has allowed him, according to him, to permanently introduce new ideas and ways of working.

This recognition has been a satisfaction for the whole team of Biotechnology at the University of Murcia.

Lozano and his team study the processes of green or sustainable chemistry and investigate in processes to get products that do not contaminate through experimental developments increasingly simple, innovative and clean processes of industrial interest.

These works have served to publish in prestigious scientific journals in his area such as Green Chemistry, ChemSusChem or Energy & Environmental Science, where they have been featured on several occasions.

This fact undoubtedly puts in value the research activity that is carried out within the University of Murcia and brings international prestige to the participating researchers.
