José Ballesta visits the public school of special education Cristo de la Misericordia de Murcia, where today the 140 students have started the school year.
This year the Consistory has increased by more than 14% the budget for the maintenance of the network of public schools in the municipality.
The mayor of Murcia, together with the Councilors of Education, Relations with Universities and Heritage, Rafa Gómez, and Social Rights, Conchita Ruiz, today visited the public school of special education Christ of Mercy of Murcia, where today have started the course its 140 students.
This center is one of the three public schools of special education of the municipality of Murcia, next to the Perez Urruti of Cabezo de Torres and the school for autistic children Las Boqueras, in the Old Road of Monteagudo.
"In the Cristo de la Misericordia, the Department of Education has collaborated in the extension of the electrical installation and assembly of air conditioning equipment for the new air conditioning of the center, which has been carried out by the Community before the start of the new course school 2017/2018, "said the mayor.
"This year we have increased by more than 14% the total budget for the maintenance of the network of public schools, with an endowment of 900,000 euros, to which we must add the 5.6 million that are allocated to pay current expenses of all the year and that include heating, water, electricity and janitors, "said José Ballesta, who added that" requests for special education centers, which serve a total of 294 children, are priorities for the City. "
The total school population of the municipality is composed of 72,696 students aged 3 to 18, who study in the 186 centers of the municipality (141 public, 44 concerted and 1 private).
Today the children begin classes and Elementary, but next day 13 students will begin the course of Secondary.
Works and cleaning work in summer
Throughout the summer, the Department of Education has carried out repairs and cleaning work in the different schools for the beginning of the new course.
The works have been executed in 21 schools in districts and districts and have consisted of repairs of pavements, enclosures, fences, blinds and other elements that help students find their centers in the best possible conditions.
The cleaning work has mobilized about 400 people throughout the month of August.
In total, throughout the year, an investment of 4 million euros is foreseen for the cleaning of the schools of Murcia and its districts.
In addition to these repairs carried out during the summer period, the rehabilitation programs of schools respond daily to the needs of the educational community, responding 365 days a year to any incidents that may occur.
