Triathlon is a sports competition in which the participants compete successively in three races, one of swimming, one cyclist and one on foot.

The swimming race of the Triathlon 'Murcia River' is planned in the passage of the Segura by the city of Murcia.

"From Now Murcia we affirm that in order to be able to celebrate activities such as that sponsored by the City Council," says Alicia Morales, "we must first declare the urban stretch of the river as a zone suitable for bathing. competent council of the Autonomous Community that carry out the appropriate procedures to make this declaration ".

The spokeswoman for Now Murcia explains that the declaration as bathing water "would be carried out in application of Royal Decree 1341/2007, dated 11 October, on the management of the quality of bathing water. that the recreational and sports activities organized by the Ayuntamiento, which includes acts that involve bathing in the river Segura as triathlons, are carried out with guarantees of total safety for the participants.

The councilwoman emphasizes that "in this way we can have the peace of mind that all the leisure activities and sports that are made in the Segura have the necessary guarantees, something that does not happen today."

Morales points out that, furthermore, after the declaration of the urban section as a bathing area "a more exhaustive analysis of this river segment will be carried out, with the relevant periodic analyzes that it is mandatory to do in the bathing areas."

Now Murcia considers it irresponsible for the team of Mayor Ballesta to organize activities that involve bathing in the urban stretch of the river "without that guarantee, because it could be putting at risk the health of athletes and bathers."
