The animals and traditions of the Orchard move to the gardens of Lieutenant Flomesta (01/09/2017)

In addition, the City Council will encourage adoption of pet animals with a sample of pets looking for a family to provide them with a new home.

The seven participatory workshops include exhibitions of activities such as esparto, silk, cane, messenger pigeons, iron, honey and pottery.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Employment, Tourism and Culture, Jesús Pacheco, and Health and Sports, Felipe Coello, inaugurated today the exhibition with more than a hundred native animals and handicraft workshops of the Huerta de Murcia, which host the gardens of Avenida Teniente Flomesta.

In total there are seven participatory workshops that include exhibitions of the traditional activities of the Huerta de Murcia such as esparto, silk, cane, messenger pigeons, iron, honey and pottery.

As for the native animals, distributed in different tents and identified with informative posters, they emphasize the giant rabbit, the Murcia goat, the broken Murcia, the red gordón turkey, the chato Murciano, the canary Murcia, the pheasant or the Murcian hen.

Neither are oxen, horses, donkeys and other species of the earth lacking.

"This exhibition of animals, which is rooted in the old cattle fair of the feasts of September, includes educational talks about the type of care required by each species and animal welfare," said the mayor.

The exhibition can be visited throughout this weekend: today Friday and Saturday morning, from 11.00 to 23.00 hours, and Sunday until noon.

Pets waiting to find a new home

In this same environment of Avenida Teniente Flomesta, the City of Murcia, through the Department of Health and Sports, has organized a sample of pets, in order to encourage the adoption of pets and provide a new home.

"Last year we launched this initiative with great success on the part of Murcia families, who adopted dozens of pets," said José Ballesta, who added that "the Zoonosis Municipal Center has a magnificent adoption program."

The adoptive family receives the dog or cat with its immunization record, microchip and hairdressing voucher;

all for free.

On the other hand, the Ordinance on the Protection and Tenure of Animals of Human Coexistence is being processed, which will be brought to plenary, a consensual document that ensures animal welfare and fosters adoption, and which includes the commitment to sacrifice ' zero 'for the 2020 horizon, by the City of Murcia.
