On Wednesday, the Canoeing World Championship begins in the Czech town of Racice with a large presence of Spanish canoeists. Six of them are linked to the Universidad Católica de Murcia (UCAM): Teresa Portela, Paco Cubelos, Sete Benavides, Javier Hernanz, Marcus Cooper Walz and Cristian Toro.

Teres Portela competes in the K-1 200 meter event and will try to increase his spectacular record in which he has had fourteen world medals since 2001. Cristian Toro, who won Olympic gold alongside Saúl Craviotto in Rio 16, participates in K -2 200 meters with Carlos Garrote.

Marcus Cooper Walz, also Olympic champion, passes from the K-1 1,000 meters to the K-2 500 meters next to Rodrigo Germade.

Another UCAM player, Paco Cubelos, will be in the 1,000-meter event with Ãñigo Peña with whom he has already achieved important results this season.

In the K-4 1,000 meters will be Javier Hernanz along with Javier Cabañín, Óscar Carrera and Rubén Millán.

In the canoe trials, Sete Benavides will double and take part in C-1 200 meters and in C-2 200 meters with Antoni Segura.

He emphasized the absence of Saúl Craviotto, gold and bronze in Rio 16, who this time was not in the selection tests for the World Cup and sets his new objectives for 2018. The objective of the palistas UCAM is to improve the spectacular results of the past Olympic Games and be in all the finals disputing the medals.
