The Socialist Parliamentary Group in Congress presents a Non-Law Proposition to insist once again on the rehabilitation of Monteagudo Castle "in the face of the repeated disdain of the PP."
According to the text of the aforementioned proposal, which will be defended by Deputy María González Veracruz, it is a spectacular fortification, declared a Cultural Interest in 2004, which is a visual reference point for the municipality of Murcia, as well as a valuable archaeological enclave Which, however, "is very degraded by the passage of time and by the successive abandonments of the administrations".
According to the spokeswoman of the Municipal Socialist Group, Susana Hernández, shows that abandonment "consented and prolonged" is that the City of Murcia committed in December 2014 to take part in the program '1.5% Cultural' to revalue the complex of the Castillo de Monteagudo and, "as he has become accustomed to us, he left his promise in the air, as we have learned from the central government's response to González Veracruz's question about the announced project, which amounted to 300,000 euros."
Therefore, the deputy asks the central government to include the Monteagudo-Cabezo de Torres complex in the aforementioned '1.5% Cultural' and that its project of protection and consolidation be implemented immediately.
Likewise, it considers it necessary to sign a co-ordination agreement of the three administrations: local, autonomous and national so that the master plans are fulfilled and ensure the necessary financing in order to finally achieve the complete rehabilitation of the archaeological complex and its value .
He also regrets that the budget item "Rehabilitation of the Monteagudo Castle" of the General State Budget for the year 2016, endowed with € 800,000 has been lost, although "the current situation has worsened, since in the Budget for 2017 Game is reduced to 52,000 euros, so we believe that, given the pace we know of the project, it has a high probability of getting lost again. "
For his part, Hernandez warns that this complex could be a "valuable source of income from tourism if the commitment was invested and there was a real interest."
El Castillo, part of a large emblematic enclave of the municipality next to Larache and Castillejo, has origins dating back to the Islamic era.
In fact, the first documentary references indicate its existence towards 1078-1079, when the Muslim king of Murcia Abderramán Ibn Tahir was imprisoned in this fortification after his dethronement.
The PSOE criticizes that "inaction presides over the cultural and patrimonial politics of the PP and that condemns us to forget a rich past that could serve for the knowledge and benefit of present and future generations."
