Juan Carmelo Gómez has been elected president of the International Union of Pure and Applied Biophysics (UBPE). He is a professor of biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of Murcia (UMU).

The election has been held at the Congress that this organization celebrates in Edinburgh.

This professor of the UMU was elected in April 2015 president of the Academy of Sciences of the Region of Murcia, position in which he replaced the also professor of this institution Pablo Artal.
