The environment of San Esteban and its site surpasses a new stage in the way towards its recovery (07/07/2017)

The Governing Board has approved the document that establishes the basis for designing the final project before the end of the year.

Six prestigious experts are members of the committee that will advise the editors of the master plan, which will also have three external observers: Asociación Hispania Nostra, Fundación Santa María la Real and the Spanish Cultural Heritage Institute.

The advance of the master plan of San Esteban counts from today with the approval of the City Council to begin its formal processing, beginning with its public exposure, informed the Councilor of Public Works, Roque Ortiz.

It is an indispensable documentation to continue from it with its development, since it contains the general framework on which to base the action, without even defining the project, something that will happen in later stages.

This progress, however, is fundamental to progress with the plan, which constitutes a strategic axis of government action, articulating the way of recovery of both the archaeological zone, the palace and the church.

Roque Ortiz explained that with this approval they continue to meet the deadlines, so that at the end of the year it will be possible to have the master plan.

UTE San Esteban, in charge of drafting the Master Plan, has a multidisciplinary team composed of architects, engineers, archaeologists, restorers, economists and tourism experts who will take charge of topographic and archaeological data, conduct an inventory and cataloging Of the remains and elaborate proposals for their use, prioritizing the musealization of the deposit.

Without forgetting in any case the actions of social and neighborhood integration, tourism promotion, cultural, trade, leisure, furniture and urban enjoyment, areas of possible pedestrianization, recovery and environmental regeneration, cleaning and waste collection.

From now on, the UTE San Esteban has a period of four months to announce an initial proposal and the consultations made to the different neighborhood groups and experts, before the final document is drawn up.

Likewise, the progress of the master plan will be transferred for the corresponding issue of a report on the sectoral aspects corresponding to the Directorate General of Cultural Property and the General Directorate of Heritage of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia and to the services of Archeology, Heritage, Urban Planning, Culture, Tourism and Environment of the City.

Protection of the archaeological zone

On the other hand, the Governing Board has adopted a second agreement in relation to the recovery of the environment of San Esteban: the Advancement of the Special Plan for Management and Protection of the Array of the Array of Arrixaca Nueva.

This document, essential because it is a cultural interest, also initiates its administrative processing in parallel with the master plan.

The progress, together with the environmental document it incorporates, is submitted to a specific process of public information and will be forwarded to the Directorate General responsible for urban planning in the Autonomous Community.

Prestigious experts

The work will have the advice of a Committee of Experts whose creation has been approved today by the Governing Board.

With a multidisciplinary and socially representative character, it will act as an advisory body of the Administration and will assist the editorial staff of the master plan.

It will have advisory and recommendation functions and its indications or proposals will be analyzed and, if appropriate, incorporated.

Its composition is as follows:

Professor of Ancient History at the University of Murcia

- Angel Luis Molina Molina.

Professor Emeritus of Medieval History.

Member of the Royal Academy of Alfonso X El Sabio.

Lecturer in the area of ​​Didactics of the Plastic Expression of the University of Valladolid.

Director Observatory of Patrimonial Education in Spain.

Coordinator of the National Education and Heritage Plan.

- Jorge Eiroa Rodríguez.

Titular Professor of Medieval History and Archaeologist

- Víctor Manuel López-Menchero Bendicho.

European Doctor in Archeology and Bachelor of History.

Member of the Spanish Society of Virtual Archeology.

The municipal archaeologist and the chief of service of Cultural Property of the Autonomous Community will also be part of the committee, but without decisive intervention.

On the other hand, the recovery of the environment of San Esteban and the site has three external observers to whom the advance approved today: the Hispania Nostra Association, the Santa María la Real Foundation and the Institute of Cultural Heritage of Spain.
