The Councilor for Social Rights, Conchita Ruiz, today presided over the closing ceremony and awards ceremony of the project 'School Reinforcement with Volunteering' in which more than a hundred students from the University of Murcia participated, who were Has submitted its accreditation as volunteers.
This program, which works hand in hand the City of Murcia, through the Department of Social Rights, and the UMU, was launched in 1999, being then rector of the educational institution Jose Ballesta.
Since then, more than a thousand university students have put their generosity at the service of the formative process of the little ones.
In this course, "a total of 136 volunteers, who have attended 145 children, participated with the collaboration of 63 educational centers and 20 social educators of the Council," said Conchita Ruiz, who also thanked "the work of the University professors and their involvement in the diffusion of the project ".
The dedication and time invested by these volunteers, a total of 5,277 hours, that is, an average of 40 hours per pupil, has improved the integration of children with social and cultural difficulties, or of foreign origin, contributing to improve not only Their academic performance, but their full adaptation in daily life, through affective support.

Other activities
In addition to the assistance, in the framework of the Project other complementary activities have been developed throughout the course:
- Christmas: During the Christmas holiday period volunteers, volunteers and minors were offered the opportunity to attend some of the activities scheduled by the City Council on the occasion of these holidays.
- Departure to the Regional Film Library for the screening of the film "Ernest and Celestine" which was attended by 99 participants (41 volunteers, 57 minors and 1 mother).
- "Cuento y Cuento": Celebration of the 1st Story of children's stories and volunteers of the School Reinforcement Project in which 20 stories of children and 4 stories of volunteers were presented.
- Departure to the cinema with teenagers where the children could choose to see between two films "Today starts everything" or "Beauty and the Beast" with 15 participants.
