The Department of Social Rights will allocate a budget of 426,000 euros for summer activities in 2017 Grows a 63% heading for schools with school canteen and for aid to families without resources whose children do not have access to one of these near the living place
The Councilor for Social Rights, Conchita Ruiz, announced this morning the launch of 58 schools and 6 summer camps during the month of July aimed at children who are in a situation of social exclusion and / or vulnerability.
For all of them, in addition to the measures that will allow almost 1,000 children to benefit from the school dining room measures, 426,000 euros are allocated.
Of the total offer of summer schools, 37 are offered by the City of Murcia, 33 for minors aged between 6 and 12 years, and 5 directed teenagers between 13 and 17 proposed by the Municipal Centers of Social Services .
In total 1,450 children will be favored by the realization of workshops, games and activities during the month of July within this program.
All of them will be carried out in schools, cultural or conciliation centers, as well as Municipal Centers of districts and districts.
The other 21 summer schools will be carried out within the Caixa Proinfancia program thanks to the collaboration of the council that Conchita Ruiz runs, on a permanent basis, with entities from the third sector.
In this area 790 children will enjoy the benefits of schools.
For its part, and thanks to the ongoing collaboration with Plena Inclusion entities, places are reserved for children with intellectual disabilities.
Summer camps
This summer, as in previous years, camps for week-long camps for minors proposed by the Municipal Social Services Centers have been managed.
The total number of places is 143 for minors aged between 6 and 16 years old, distributed in 11 shifts of 6 camps.
The budget amounts to € 32,882.
School canteen
Conchita Ruiz has announced that under the measures set out in the proposals by the municipal council for the eradication of child poverty, 28 summer schools will have a school cafeteria which will benefit 980 children (580 municipal budget, 270 carry out Caritas, 110 the Columbares Association and 20 the Abraham Project).
"We must remember that in 2016 there were 19 schools that the Department offered with dining service for its assistants, so this year we added 9 more until reaching 28 and fulfill our promise to increase the aid," said Conchita Ruiz.
The budget allocated by the Department for canteens in summer schools, is around € 61,000.
But in addition they will be granted aid to families who, in case they do not have access to a summer school with a dining room, are proposed by the Municipal Centers of Social Services.
The number of aid that has been processed from these units reaches 802 children belonging to 394 families in the municipality, the total budget for these grants being € 172,430.
An increase of 306% when compared to the summer of 2016, when 262 minors were supported.
For all this summer 1,782 children benefit from this measure to combat child poverty in the municipality of Murcia thanks to the budget invested by the Department of Social Rights amounting to € 253,330, an approximate increase of 63% of the budget With respect to 2016.
