The course on cell therapy "Cell Therapy: from the bench to the bedside and return", taught by the University of the Sea-Campus Mare Nostrum, aims to disseminate knowledge about stem cells and their therapeutic possibilities, paying special attention to Regenerative medicine and hematopoietic stem cell transplants.
The activity aims to create a forum for scientific discussion with basic researchers and clinical experts in Cell Therapy in which the achievements and challenges in this new area of ​​Medicine are exposed.
Cell therapy is one of the most advanced healing or improvement therapies in the field of medicine.
As Moraleda, one of the course's directors, points out, "the difference between a pill and a cell is that the former is a chemical that is metabolized and then eliminated, while the cell is a living drug, so it must be regulated We need a lot more research. "
According to those responsible for the course, cell therapy is one of the most effective areas in many diseases, not only in the treatment of cancer.

Specific objectives of the activity include the analysis of the different types of stem cells, their biological properties and the characteristics that allow their manipulation in the laboratory and clinical use.
To make known the new types of bone marrow transplants and the impact of modulation of the immune system on their results.
The course is led by professors José M. Moraleda, Damián García Olmo, Robert Sackstein and Salvador Martínez.
The activity will take place from 10 to 12 July in the Alcázares, with a duration of 20 hours.
