The boxer, several times champion of Spain, has participated in the meeting organized by the Chair 'Women, Company and Sport' that gathered in the UCAM athletes, politicians, referees, researchers, teachers and federation officials to discuss the current role of The woman in boxing
'Leadership of women in boxing' is the title of the meeting organized by the Chair of 'Women, Company and Sport' of the UCAM.
The Government of the Region of Murcia, the national and autonomic federations and the Catholic University itself have been represented to provide the vision from every possible point of view on the reality of boxers.
For this it has been essential the participation of a female referee, a psychologist of the boxing federation and, of course, the boxers themselves.
Concha Bravo, deputy director of the Chair for Women, Enterprise and Sport, focused on the subject and the importance of making the chair a useful tool to propose initiatives and improvements: "This meeting with the Spanish Boxing Federation has a Very clear objective: to present a project to enhance the role of women in boxing with a view to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. We find it very interesting and we will support them in all we can. "
Jennifer Miranda is a boxer and one of the great referents of this sport in our country.
She believes that much remains to be done but, at least, we are working in the right direction: "When I started there were very few girls and it was very hard to make a dent and have them in Spain and in the international arena. We are going forward and meetings like the one we are doing today is something new and surprising and it is a step further. It is a sign that we are on the right track. "
Among the short-term goals to achieve real equality between men and women in Spanish boxing, Jennifer believes that it is best to start from the bottom: "We must take care of the quarry of Spanish women's boxing. Count on the girls for the competitions just like they do with the boys.I'm confident that this support will arrive at the level of competition that will allow the possibility to work better the base with the girls Spanish boxing has grown because it works well with the Boys from the bottom and that's what women lack.
