The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, accompanied by the Councilor for Education, Relations with Universities and Heritage, Rafael Gómez, Councilor for Traffic, Safety and Citizen Protection, Lola Sánchez, Director General for Attention to Diversity and Educational Quality, Esperanza Moreno, members of the Municipal Corporation and representatives of the sponsoring companies, today presented the prizes of the XXVIII Local Competition for Road Education and Accident Prevention.
Under the motto 'My safety is education', this competition on road traffic, organized by the Department of Education in collaboration with the Traffic, is theoretical and has actively participated in about 500 students aged 14 and 15, Belonging to fifty educational centers of the municipality, which over three phases have passed tests and questionnaires on standards, signs, first aid and advice on safe driving.
José Ballesta congratulated the winners and thanked the teachers for their effort and involvement in this initiative "that transcends academics and is located in the field of comprehensive training of students."
Studies show that car accidents are the leading cause of death among young people around the world, with a higher proportion of those between the ages of 18 and 24.
"As future drivers, learning traffic rules, awareness and prevention are essential to reduce the accident rate," said the mayor.
"You are the first generation of the 21st century and before you imagine you will be in charge of the institutions and positions of responsibility of this city.
For this reason, a solid and quality training is essential so that you surpass and arrive us higher than the previous generations ", appealed Jose Ballesta to the winning boys and girls.

The contest started the young people, firstly, in the traffic rules relating to the driving of bicycles and mopeds to further deepen the rules of driving: speed, safety distance, driving under the influence of alcohol, etc.
