This morning has begun the second round of meetings of the working groups that should indicate the measures to be taken in the sectors in which Murcia is most vulnerable: water, natural environment, garden, agriculture and urbanism.
The forecast is that in 2018 approve the Adaptation Plan, which will place Murcia among the first Spanish cities to have this instrument, essential to face a sustainable future.
This morning there have been meetings of the experts' tables on orchard - inaugurated by Councilman Antonio Navarro - and agriculture, which will continue tomorrow the water and natural environment, concluding on Friday with the session on urbanism.
Today, the second round of meetings of experts and experts involved in the participatory process has been launched, whose objective is to determine the most appropriate adaptation measures to combat the effects of climate change in our municipality.
Antonio Navarro, Councilor for Town Planning Environment and Huerta, inaugurated the sessions, which on this occasion have had the participation of organizations, professional associations, associations, knowledge centers, companies and experts.
After the first round of the process, which took place in March, focused on the participation of local and regional government employees, a proposal was made for the most appropriate measures for each of the identified vulnerability sectors: water, natural environment , Agriculture, orchard and urbanism.
Based on this document, experts now value the appropriateness of these measures, complementing them with their contributions, with the aim that all sectors of society are represented in the future Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change.
ALEM, the Local Agency for Energy and Climate Change, coordinates the celebration of these Work Tables following the Municipal Roadmap for Adaptation, which will conclude in 2018 with the preparation of the Adaptation Plan of the Municipality of Murcia.
This is one of the commitments acquired by the City of Murcia following its accession in 2016 to the European Pact of Mayors for climate and energy.
In June the participatory process will end with a day open to all citizens, who will be able to present their ideas and concerns.
In this sense the City of Murcia already has the contributions of the university students sector following the celebration of the global climate change CLIMATHON 2016.
Antonio Navarro has insisted that "Climate Change requires the support of all sectors of society to be able to cope with it, which is why the City of Murcia wants to send to Europe an Adaptable Adaptation Plan and suitable to the reality of Murcia, agreed with Our citizens ".
In his opinion, "the really important thing is that with the collaboration of all we can fulfill it".
He recalls that "cities are facing significant current and future impacts of climate change, and the road to adaptation is the process of preparation for climate change."
Murcia is doing it.
In this sense, the Emissions Inventory of the Municipality has been presented, which has resulted in a reduction of CO 2 emissions since 2007 of 24.5%, higher than the 20% committed by 2020.
As a preliminary work, in 2016 a study of climate projections was carried out - which provided information on how the climate will be in the future, up to 2100, if no global measures are taken to reduce CO 2 emissions - and a vulnerability analysis - Which assesses the current and future climate impacts in the municipality, as a basis for the development of a good strategy for adaptation to climate change.
