The Church of Las Anas tomorrow will host the concert of the Schola Gregoriana of Murcia within the Festival Murcia Tres Culturas (22/05/2017)

The Church of the Anas will host tomorrow Tuesday, May 23, at 8.30 pm, the performance of the Schola Gregoriana de Murcia and Alfonso Sáez Docón programmed within the Festival Murcia Tres Culturas and in which they will make a tour of the Gregorian monodia, primitive Polyphony and organ pieces from the old repertoire, using as a guiding thread the figure of Mary.

The repertoire of Gregorian chant is exceptionally rich in Marian songs.

The title of the program, 'Salve Sancta Parens' comes from the text with which the introitus (entrance song) of the votive mass dedicated to the Virgin Mary begins.

The Marian antiphons (Ave Maria, Salve Regina, Ave Maris Stella, Ave Regina Caelorum, etc.) constitute a fundamental part in the corpus of Gregorian chant and the first polyphony included in the Hispanic codices such as the Codex de las Huelgas.

The repertoire for organ from the sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries, the most suitable for the organ of the Convent of Las Anas, contains extraordinary works in which the Gregorian chant dialogues with the organ in a style of composition in which they alternate one and the other, allowing To observe the importance that the Gregorian chant has in the development of all western musical evolution, contributing the basic technical and aesthetic elements on which the whole technique of later composition is built.

The Schola Gregoriana of Murcia was founded the 15 of February of 1994, although it began its musical passage under the name of Vocal Music in 1987, being its director Jose Solano Muñoz.

From February 1993 to September 2005 the group was directed by Enrique González Semitiel, in a long period in which it consolidated like one of the Spanish groups of more solera of those specialized in Gregorian chant.

It is currently headed by one of its members, Eduardo Martínez Graciá, assisted by Juan Torres Durán.

This Schola emerged from the union of a group of men interested in the knowledge and interpretation of ancient music in general and Gregorian chant in particular, under a triple perspective: vocal technique, the study of semiology and respect for spirituality And functionality of this song.

The interpretative study is based on the ancient manuscripts from the abbeys of Saint Gall, Laon and Einsiedeln, collected in the Graduale Triplex, Liber Usualis, Liber Hymnarius and Psalterium Monasticum.

The choir has continued to expand its formation with professors Francisco Javier Lara and Ismael Fernández de la Cuesta, as well as on trips to the abbey of Silos, where he has worked with Father José Luis Angulo, and has sung, together with the monks, in Various liturgical celebrations.

On his trip to the Abbey of Solesmes (France) he also worked with the choirmaster, Dom Yves-Marie Lelièvre.

With his numerous performances, in these years of choral life, he has contributed to the knowledge of Gregorian chant by the general public.

In the Region of Murcia has taken to almost all corners, participating in Murcia in the most prestigious cycles and festivals ("Murcia Tres Culturas", "Cultural Sacro", "Cycle of Historic Organs", etc.).
