The City Council of Murcia will participate in Climathon 2017, the largest event on climate change in the world, held on 27 October in which 24 hours will be held simultaneously in major cities around the world.
Each participating city proposes its own local climate challenge based on the vulnerabilities of its environment, and which is intended to respond through this event.
The participants will work in a group providing reflections and developing them during that day, which allows to know new ideas to solve the challenges of the city, involving students, entrepreneurs and innovators;
Offering them the possibility to present their proposals and strengthening the links between companies, universities and administration.
In the last edition of 2016 work was done on water scarcity, urban planning and the orchard of Murcia and the challenge was to improve the adaptation of the municipality to climate change.
The Climathon was held for the first time in 2015 with 19 cities and is a European initiative promoted by Climate-KIC, Europe's largest public-private partnership focused on innovation to mitigate and adapt to climate change. One of the biggest challenges facing the European Union.
