The first edition of the initiative 'Walks with history' yesterday gathered half a hundred of Murcia who shared a tour of several neighborhoods of the city and guided by the official chronicler of Murcia, Antonio Botías.
The initiative, promoted by the Department of Education, Relations with Universities and Heritage, led by Rafael Gómez, to celebrate the Day of the Book, started in the square of San Agustín, where the chronicler referred some of the legends that treasure the images of Salzillo , The location in the garden of the market that is now preserved in San Basilio or the history of the auroros.
From there, the participants moved to the door of the Museum of the City, where they learned anecdotes and curiosities from the convent of Las Agustinas and the old patroness of Murcia, the Virgin of the Arrixaca, as well as various brushstrokes on the Powder Factory Or the last Arab garden that is conserved in the city, located to the back of the Museum, that was denominated House of López Ferrer.
The chronicler also recalled the history of the popular Lion of the Malecón, which is preserved in those rooms, or the legend of the Tower of the Washerwomen, one of the best documented exorcisms in Spanish history.
Another one of the stops was the garden of the Silk, so called by the existence of a great factory dedicated to that remote art that allowed the development of the city of definitive form.
The walk ended at the doors of the Library of San Basilio, institution that organized the walk, very close to where the historic Huerto de las Bombas stood.
The success of the public in this initiative encourages the City of Murcia to schedule other walks in the coming months in order to bring the citizens the splendid history that treasures the city in each of its corners and corners.
