Antonio Navarro Corchón, Lieutenant Mayor of the Department of Urbanism, Environment and Huerta of the City of Murcia, has closed this morning the Carbon Footprint Calculation Workshop offered by the City of Murcia, within the framework of the campaign "Act Forward To the Climate Change ", in which nine companies of the municipality participated.
The objective is to know this index that represents the mark that is left on the environment each activity that emits greenhouse gases.
To establish this footprint, the participants have used the tool published by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment (MAPAMA), also beginning the procedures to register in the existing National Registry.
The companies that have attended the workshop belong to various sectors of activity, from the agri-food, metal or transport sectors.
In particular, workshops have been held by M. Gallego, Traperos de Emmaus, Lemonking, Metal Technological Center, Special Oils of the Mediterranean, IKEA, Cementos la Cruz, Tubacero and Maderas Rucomar.
Navarro stressed that "with their presence they have demonstrated their environmental awareness and their willingness to develop actions that allow them to reduce their CO 2 emissions in the future."
The first session of the workshop, held on April 27th, addressed the most theoretical concepts of the carbon footprint, proposing various dynamics that would allow defining the scope and the carbon footprint approach of each of the participating organizations.
In the organization of the activity, the City Council has had the collaboration of Croem to disseminate its celebration among the partners and with the Service of Promotion of the Environment and Climate Change of the Autonomous Community in the course.
The ultimate goal of these workshops is to make available to small and medium-sized enterprises, free of charge, personalized training and tools that allow them to assess the advantages of integrating climate change policies in their companies, including the Footprint Calculation Of Carbon and the obtaining of the stamp and corresponding accreditation on the part of the MAPAMA.
In addition, ALEM offers assistance to participating organizations after the workshop.
There are many business-related advantages associated with obtaining this seal, such as increased competitiveness by offering its customers additional added value, knowing the energy consumption levels of the company, or drawing up a reduction plan Of emissions with the consequent reduction of their energy costs.
And is that, Navarro recalled, "climate change is not only a matter of public administrations, it is also the responsibility of society as a whole."
Determining the carbon footprint of an organization is a key issue in the fight against climate change.
The City of Murcia has fulfilled this objective and has calculated its index, obtaining results of emissions by 2015 of 0.064 t CO2eq per inhabitant.
This is the second edition that calls for this innovative initiative, within the framework of the fight against climate change, promoted by the Department of Urbanism, Environment and Huerta.
