With the title of recently renewed European Champion of Badminton, Carolina Marín arrived at the Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM), where she studied the Degree in Physiotherapy, to give a talk and participate in a practical session with the students of the Faculty of sport.
The Huelva talked about her next goals and also offered some of the keys that have led her to succeed in a sport dominated entirely by the Asian players.
Before her talk with the students, she answered the questions of the journalists, beginning with her feelings on her first visit to the Los Jeronimos Campus: "I was impressed with UCAM's facilities. Allows me to study, although gradually, by my pace of training and competitions but I hope to finish the race of Physiotherapy in a few years.
The possibility of studying would have been impossible without the joint work of UCAM and the Spanish Olympic Committee: "All athletes are very grateful to the Catholic University of Murcia for their support. It is very important that a university perform this work because it is very complicated For an elite athlete to combine the studies with our training schedules ".
After the Rio 16 gold medal, Carolina already has her goals in mind and, as usual, the ambition and the desire to win are her personal seal: "I want to become the best player in history and for this I still have We get two more World Cups and other Olympic Games and both myself and my team are focused on those goals. "
The first step to that great goal will come this summer with a new World Championship: "I have major tournaments in Indonesia and Australia at the end of June and the main objective is the World Championship in August which will be in Scotland."
A few years ago it would have been unthinkable to hear a Spaniard say that her goal was to win her third World Badminton, so Carolina is on the list of athletes who have opened a new path in Spanish sport: "I feel pioneering this sport And I am proud and happy to open the way and teach the Spaniards what badminton is and that in the future we will have many more champions. "
While these new champions are coming to this sport, it has been noticed that in our country more and more are practicing badminton: "You have to keep working hard to promote it, but there are more people who practice it. With his parents to this sport is what makes me happier. "
The mentalization, key to winning parties
During the chat with the students, Carolina Marin answered all kinds of questions.
Many of them were aimed at one of the aspects that most emphasize in their profile as an athlete, the psychological preparation: "It is very important to be mentalized for each match and for each tournament. If I start to think too much about the importance of what I do I lose concentration. My game is attack and therefore I always have to prove to me and my opponent that I have control of each point. "
At the end, the talk offered a practical session in which he played some points with students of the University and gave some notions about badminton, a sport that, thanks to it, is becoming more known in Spain.
