José Ballesta presents the I Contest of Children and Youth Stories 'Knowing my roots', one of the activities scheduled to mark the 750th anniversary of the Council of Murcia.
The Plenary Hall has welcomed the presentation of the table game whose board is the plane of the thirteenth-century Murcia, and whose boxes describe the history of the city from its foundation in the year 825 to 1266, at which time Alfonso X granted The Fuero de Sevilla.
The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, along with council members Rebeca Pérez, Rafa Gómez and Nacho Tornel, delivered this afternoon the prizes of the First Child and Youth Storytelling Contest 'Knowing My Roots', one of the activities scheduled on the occasion of The celebration of the 750th anniversary of the Council of Murcia.
The objective of this contest, aimed at schoolchildren in the municipality between 8 and 14 years, is to promote and disseminate the identity and reality of Murcia as a city of encounter and coexistence between cultures.
For that reason, the central theme of the stories has been the history, traditions and customs of the capital of the Region.
"The main difference of Murcia is that we are no different to anyone.
The genius of this land has been to uniquely assemble all the cultures it has received and to fertilize them in order to generate in the present a historical synthesis and an unrepeatable personality, "said the mayor.
In this sense, he added that "the 750th anniversary of the Council that we are celebrating throughout this year and that will culminate with a golden snap at the next International Festival of Three Cultures Murcia, is a unique opportunity to delve into our roots and encourage The future generations of Murcia to know the diverse origin of our city, and immerse themselves in the long and brilliant history of our people.
Diplomas have been awarded to all children participating in the contest, from four schools in the municipality.
The first prize in the category of Children (5th and 6th grade) has fallen to Salvador Castillo Gallego, from the school Cristo Crucificado (Villa Pilar), with the story 'Gracias Tormenta'.
The second prize was taken by María Acosta Martínez, from the school Jesús María, with the work titled 'A walk through Mursiya'.
In the juvenile short story category (from 1 to 4 of ESO) the winner was Ana del Carmen Ruiz Serrano, from the Cristo Crucificado school (Villa Pilar), with the story 'Possibles Imposibles'.
The second prize was taken by Rosa Iraida López Balibrea, also of the educational center Villa Pilar, with the work titled 'Jalila and Alfonso to the banks of the river Segura'.
'The Game of the Wise King'
After the presentation of awards has been presented 'The Game of the Wise King', a playful activity that commemorates the 750th anniversary of the Council of Murcia, and which has been designed by the architects Enrique de Andrés and Coral Marín.
It is a board game that has been given to all the children participating in the story contest, whose board is the map of the thirteenth-century Murcia, and in it the boxes describe the history of the city since its foundation in the Year 825 to 1266, at which time Alfonso X awarded Murcia the Fuero de Sevilla, constituting the Council.
The winner of the game, composed of 63 squares that make up a route for the most emblematic monuments of the city, is the first to get 'The Seal' granted by the Wise King.
