The Government Board has approved the collaboration agreement with the Murcian Society of Anthropology (SOMA) to develop studies on the cultural history of Our Father Jesus Cemetery.
It is an initiative with which the City Council wants to promote knowledge about the past that houses this cemetery, as well as activities and publications that promote the analysis of its cultural history, highlighting illustrious people whose remains are deposited there.
This proposal of the Department of Sports and Health, directed by Felipe Coello, involves the recovery of an important part of the cultural heritage of the municipality.
The Cemetery of Our Father Jesus, which is 130 years old, was created in 1885 to solve a problem of public health, since in the eighteenth century it was urged to move the fields beyond the cities.
Coello emphasized that "with this initiative, similar to that carried out by other cities in Spain and Europe, the cultural values of cemeteries are strengthened, thus recovering much of our historical memory."
The agreement is valid until 2019 and the municipal contribution will amount to 5,000 euros per year.
