The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, accompanied by the Councilor for Social Rights, Conchita Ruiz, today signed the collaboration agreement with the social work of La Caixa, to extend the benefits of the program for children, with the territorial director of CaixaBank in Murcia and eastern Andalusia, Juan I Zafra, and the corporate director of the Social Area of ​​the La Caixa Foundation, Marc Simón.

This agreement represents the renewal of this commitment, signed for the last time in 2014 between both institutions to reinforce the fight against child poverty, continuing CaixaProinfancia program until the end of this 2017, "said the mayor, who highlighted" social profitability " Of the initiative.
Through this program, in 2016 the City Council and the entity served 2,899 children and 1,868 families, with an investment by the Social Work of 2.7 million euros.
Since 2007, around 13,000 children and more than 7,000 families have been supported, with a contribution of 20.8 million euros.
CaixaProinfancia works to ensure that children in situations of poverty or social exclusion have the same opportunities as the rest, promoting actions focused on their social and educational development, as well as that of their families.
These initiatives are focused on educational reinforcement, play activities, psychosocial therapy, health promotion, etc.
Educational spaces in Espinardo, San Pío X and Los Dolores
Specifically, the entity promotes three educational and recreational spaces in Espinardo, San Pío X and Los Dolores, classrooms equipped with computer and pedagogical resources that provide children with an educational environment outside of after-hours.
In each classroom, which are managed by the Municipal Social Services - who develop and plan the programming of activities - more than 150 children between the ages of 5 and 16 participate.
In addition, the CaixaProinfancia program, which is developed in the different districts of the municipality, has nine collaborating entities coordinated by Caritas, CEPAIM and the Fundación Secretariado Gitano, working in a coordinated way to promote integrated and coordinated action.
