Sanchez: "Now Murcia is misrepresenting the facts in a sloppy way" (24/04/2017)

The Councilor for Traffic and Public Safety, Lola Sánchez, has now demanded that Murcia "stop misrepresenting the facts in a sloppy way. Relating a complaint for violating the ordinance of street cleaning with the situation of social exclusion of a person is false and erroneous , As well as outrageous "

Sánchez explained that "the Local Police report is produced for violating Article 78 B of the Road Cleaning Ordinance, which, among its minor infractions, sanction the lack of cleanliness of the public highway in the cases of private use of it And has no relation to the condition of the person denounced, whether he is a passer or resident. "

The council has indicated that "it is not possible to speak of a complaint to a homeless to occupy the public highway, but, in any case, a complaint to a person who acts against the provisions of a street cleaning ordinance."

"The Local Police of Murcia has always shown a great sensitivity in the attention to people in situations of social exclusion, which has always been exemplary," said Sánchez.

Thus, this ordinance regulates infractions such as throwing waste such as paper, cigarette or similar, or spit on the public highway;

The making of graffiti or graffiti on public roads, buildings, street furniture or other public items;

Depositing trash outside the established schedule;

Or washing vehicles on public roads, among others.

Sánchez recalled that "since the City Council has been working continuously against social exclusion and care for the homeless, so the professionals of the SEMAS are the first to maintain contact habitually with people who exercise begging on the street , Gathering information about their situation and orienting them to the resources that the public network has available to attend to their basic social needs.

To this must be added that the City Council "has contracted with the Jesus Abandoned Foundation of Murcia social catering services and accommodation for the immediate care of homeless people, for an annual amount of € 504,881, which will be extended from 1 September, to cover homeless people with socio-health problems and requiring accommodation and continued health care. "

Likewise, the Department of Social Rights has signed agreements for the care of various aspects to homeless people or in situations of social exclusion with various entities, among which we can mention the RAIS Foundation (30,000 euros);

The Association NERI (20,000 euros) and Caritas Diocesana (225,000 euros).
