The sculpture of a sardinero is erected from today on the walk Alfonso X El Sabio, at its confluence with Jaime I, a work created by Juan José Quirós that was discovered today by the Mayor José Ballesta, along with the Minister of Culture and spokesman Of the regional government, Noelia Arroyo, and the president of the Sardinera group, Gregorio González.
"Today is a day of joy," proclaimed the sculptor of the monument to the sardinero, who highlighted "the wonderful environment that is Alfonso X and in which today I leave a part of me with this work."
The mayor emphasized that it is a work that "represents the ultimate essence of the sardine;
A sculpture that looks at the city with a frank look, in an emblematic place such as Alfonso X, in which Saturday morning does not fit a soul for the party sardinera.
José Ballesta also said that the statue "is not raised on a pedestal, but is on the ground, on an equal footing, at the foot of the street, like the sardines, among which Murcia do not feel distances or differences" and Stressed "the gesture of the sardinero, who advances a hand to deliver a whistle and his bag full of gifts."
"As a representative of the Municipal Corporation I want to say that it is an honor for all of us to receive this gift that the Sardinera Association does to the city of Murcia, showing its characteristic generosity," concluded the mayor.
