Next Tuesday, April 4, at 8.30 pm, the exhibition "The sketches of Picasso's Guernica, 80th Anniversary" will be inaugurated in the lobby of the Rectorate of the University of Murcia.
Facsimile reproduction of the Preparatory Studies of Guernica.
It is now 80 years old (it was 1937) since the Republican Government of Spain proposed to Pablo Picasso to make a large mural to the Pavilion of the International Exhibition and Exhibition in Paris.
In order to make the famous painting, Picasso made a thorough preparatory study consisting of 42 works.
In them, and inspired by the Nazi bombing of the population of Guernica, the artist reflected the horror and irrationality of the war.
The exhibition that is now presented at the Rector's Office of the UMU allows to contemplate the preparatory studies, in a facsimile edition, being able therefore to follow, as privileged spectators, the process of elaboration of the famous canvas.
The works have been donated by Concepción Martínez Guillamón.
Organized by: Rector of the University of Murcia.
Collaboration: Service of Culture.
The exhibition can be visited until April 28.
