The councilman of Cambiemos murcia Sergio Ramos today urged the government team to comply with the motion approved last November so that the City Council does not sign contracts with companies that use tax havens to evade taxes.
Ramos explained that the Consistory has not yet launched this initiative, presented by the opposition following a request by Oxfam, whose objective was to declare Murcia free zone of tax havens, based on criteria of justice and transparency.
The way to materialize the proposal is the inclusion of clauses in the specifications to exclude companies that use their interests in countries that exempt foreign investors who hold bank accounts or constitute companies in their territory.
"It is a question of excluding from public procurement, through a guarantee clause of public transparency present in all phases in which the procedure is developed, to all those companies that are registered in tax havens," he said.
This measure has been implemented in other municipalities such as Madrid, where companies that opt for public contracts are required to file a declaration to ensure that they have not carried out financial transactions considered illegal in bank accounts domiciled in tax havens.
In this way, in Ramos's words, it is achieved that public institutions incorporate in their contracting policies criteria that promote a more responsible fiscal behavior on the part of the bidding companies.
The mayor has denounced that the tax avoidance of large companies through tax havens is an economic discrimination for small and medium enterprises that can not or do not use them.
In addition, tax evasion through these spaces also reduces public collection, making it more difficult to finance social services spending.
