The Bishop of Cartagena and the mayor of Murcia this morning visited the Sanctuary of the Fuensanta, whose access ramp has been rehabilitated after the damages suffered by heavy rains last December.
An emergency work that will facilitate the descent of 'La Morenica', which this Thursday will arrive in the capital to remain in the Cathedral during Holy Week and Spring Festivals.
The works are part of the Plan for Improvement of the Sanctuary of Fuensanta, presented this morning, which comes from an agreement between the Diocese of Cartagena, specifically the Cabildo Catedralicio, and the City of Murcia.
"It is a plan that intends to undertake a comprehensive reform of the whole environment," explained the mayor, José Ballesta, "which unites important historical and patrimonial value with a sentimental value that does not have to specify what it means for all Murcia."
"Many of the visitors that come have this point as a reference and also needed, in terms of aesthetics, a few touches," said Bishop Lorca Planes.
"We will also collaborate in this initiative that will be a good for all.
We want you to enjoy it, not only the Murcians, but also all those who visit us. "
The first phase, already undertaken, as reported by the mayor of Murcia, includes improvements in accessibility, arrangement of access ramp, and is currently working on the lookout.
To this it would have to add three phases that go from the arrangement of cornices, agglomerates, painted walls and lintels, arrangement of the ornamental fountain, vegetation recovery, slope cleaning, plantations, street furniture and children's games.
All these works affect more than 1,300 square meters of surface, of hillside of the Fuensanta.
