The University of Murcia (UMU) has developed the first low cost IP Telephony system with functions superior to the most advanced in the sector and totally adapted for the environments of the public administrations.
IP Telephony, which allows the transmission of voice communications over data networks, despite the cost savings in infrastructures it offers, has always presented the problem of the excessive cost of its updating from time to time to new versions, defined this by The increasingly shorter life cycles of manufacturers.
The UMU, aware that many agencies and companies have been, in a context of budgetary containment or reduction, in a compromised situation to keep their systems updated (with the consequent risk to the reliability and security of their communications), the Challenge to find a solution.
The result, a result of the collaboration between UMU and RingSouth Europe, has resulted in UMUCom: a low cost IP Telephony solution based on standard voice platforms and protocols, scalable and easily adaptable to other Spanish public administrations.
After a year of implementation of this system at the University of Murcia, this has managed to reduce operating costs by more than 75% on average, has streamlined communications and, more importantly, is clearly willing to offer horizontal services integrating Communications as a key tool in improving staff productivity and collaboration.
