The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, the general director of La Verdad, Antonio González García, and the technical director of the event, José Juan de León, presented today the II City Race of Murcia, the national sporting event that brings together this (Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 February), about half a thousand athletes from all over Spain, who will compete in the urban environment of the river Segura, as it passes through the capital.

He also said that "the athletes themselves, from all over Spain, consider this field of practice as the Segura River, an environment shared by fishermen, runners and cyclists, to be open to all. Olympic Champions in the Segura
The Regata Ciudad de Murcia was held last year for the first time, that is, 35 years after the last sporting event that hosted the city, which must be traced back to the spring of 1981. In its first edition, the competition was Distinguished with the prize to the Best Regatta 2016, by the Canoeing Federation of the Region of Murcia.
During the presentation, which also included members of the Municipal Corporation and responsible for the Murcia River Club, the Federation of Canoeing of the Region of Murcia and the Club Murcia Remo, it was announced that the event will feature the presence of Olympic champion Carlos Perez Rial 'Perucho', gold in Beijing 2008 (K2 500m) and four-time world champion, and Álvaro Fiuza, three-time world champion, two-time European champion and one of the canoeists who has won the International Sella Seven editions, from 2010 to 2016).
Both compete in the Regatta Four, accompanied by the international Nicolás Dono and Antonio Palmas Reguera.
The I City of Murcia Regatta is a national competition qualified by the Royal Spanish Canoe Federation as a 'Special Interest', as is the descent of the Sella.
It is also the first test of the season, included within the calendar of the Federation of Canoe Canoe.
This sporting event, in addition to promoting Murcia as a premier sporting scene, is an important stimulus for hotel occupancy and local commerce, since at least 200 athletes will spend the night in the city on the occasion of the test.
Program: from dragon boats to kayaks
The competition will feature four events throughout the weekend: Kayak Regatta - Canoe, Regatta Four, Paddle SUP Race and Dragon Boats Challenge.
The competition will take place between the Mills of the River, where the departure of the different boats, and the Puente de la Fica will take place, with the following schedules:
