Felipe Coello: "seven out of ten people coexist with a rare disease and in Spain there are about three million patients of this type"
Felipe Coello, councilor of Health and Sports, will tomorrow present in the municipal plenary a motion for the City of Murcia to adhere to the Declaration of Principles of the Spanish Federation of Rare Diseases (FEDER), on the occasion of the celebration on 28 February of the World Day of Rare Diseases.
According to Coello, "seven out of ten people live with a rare disease and in Spain there are about three million patients of this type, since it is a disease that can affect anyone."
Therefore, "we propose to the City Council adherence to the FEDER Declaration of Principles to contribute to improving the quality and life expectancy of those affected and their families," said the councilman.
Likewise, the mayor has stated the importance of "continuing research on these rare diseases to prevent, diagnose and treat them, as well as continue to provide adequate social and health care to this group."
To this end, Felipe Coello has announced that "we will urge all the sectors involved to join this declaration that will constitute the roadmap of the federation and to establish concrete proposals for the development and implementation of research policies on diseases Rare ".
In this way, "new diagnostic procedures for the early detection, adoption of appropriate and internationally recognized classification systems, and the promotion of new therapeutic targets to promote innovative treatments, among other actions, must be invested", concluded Coello.
