The municipal groups PSOE, Now Murcia and Cambiemos Murcia will defend in the Plenum this Thursday a motion for the City Council to require the central government to reform the Spanish Constitution in order to shield the Public Pension System.
The initiative was presented this morning in a press conference by the councilors Maite Espinosa, of the municipal group Socialist;
Alicia Morales, Now Murcia, Miguel Campillo, the Círculo de Mayores de Podemos and Margarita Guerrero de Cambiemos, as well as Andrés Mora, member of the Platform of the Region of Murcia in defense of the Public Pensions and Carlos Marín, of the Bureau State Pension Pro-Referendum (MERP).
The objective is to urge the Government and Congress to take care of the MERP's claim, promoting a constitutional reform that includes the express prohibition that any government, current or future, can touch, cut or privatize, totally or partially, the System Pensions Public.
For promoters, an article is required that includes as a constitutional obligation the maintenance of the purchasing power of pensions and, therefore, the impossibility of any type of measure, whether cuts, tax increases, co-payments, Public services, payments or any other may affect pensions, except those that are favorable to them.
Mora and Marín have agreed to highlight the need for citizens to mobilize urgently in favor of maintaining pensions.
"The public system moves every year 100,000 million euros, a mouthful very appetizing for foreign and Spanish investment funds, and this has to stop already," they have argued.
The three political groups have insisted that this is an intergenerational demand that needs the support of all citizens, as well as measures that fight against precarious work to ensure decent pensions in the future.
"Although it is not a municipal competition, the City Council has to mobilize," they have said.
The motion has been presented in 60 municipalities of the country.
In 17 of them it has been approved, as is the case of Santiago de Compostela, Zaragoza, Pamplona or Hospitalet de Llobregat, where it has been endorsed by the whole Corporation.
