A doctoral thesis at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Murcia (UMU) by María Isabel Hurtado Guillén concludes that it is foreseeable that the city of Murcia will continue its expansion towards the North, which will determine that the municipalities located in that zone Are under its area of influence.
The new doctor, who has obtained the qualification of outstanding cum laude for her study, has analyzed the evolution of the population of the five municipalities of Vega Media: Alguazas, Ceutí, Lorquí, Molina de Segura and Las Torres de Cotillas, to observe How the changes registered in them have contributed to modify the space.
The doctoral thesis also analyzes the characteristics of the physical environment as a condition for human settlement, along with the demographic evolution, from the most representative census of the contemporary era to the present.
The study has allowed to verify how among all these municipalities the one of Molina de Segura is the one that has exerted a protagonism that has been increasing since the end of the XIX century.
However, since the mid-1980s, other populations have also experienced some very important changes.
This research work, which has obtained the qualification of outstanding cum laude, was directed by UMU professors Josefa Gómez Fayrén and Ramón García Marín.
