Through the Department of Youth and Development Cooperation, directed by Rebeca Pérez, the City of Murcia has signed three collaboration agreements with UNICEF, Humanism and Democracy and Education and Development (SED) to develop and promote humanitarian aid projects in Haiti, in order to mitigate the damage caused by Hurricane Mathew.
To this end, the City Council will contribute 30,000 euros to the Foundation Humanism and Democracy, Unicef ​​and Solidarity, Education and Development (SED).
During the catastrophe, about 175,000 people were evacuated and more than 1000 died, so the projects are intended to serve this highly affected population.
The needs that will cover these projects will be destined to almost 5,000 people for the acquisition and distribution of hygiene kits, food and drinking water kits, essential medicines, sheets / blankets and mosquito nets, and health and environmental awareness talks Humanism and Democracy);
Water, sanitation and hygiene, provision of water tanks, water purification tablets, household water, sanitation and hygiene kits and provision of latrines (UNICEF);
And Food and educational needs (Solidarity, Education and Development).
The City Council signed last year an agreement with UNICEF and Red Cross to develop the project of humanitarian aid to the victims of the earthquake in Ecuador.
In total, the City Council allocated 20,000 euros, through the Department of Youth and Development Cooperation, the Spanish Red Cross (which received 10,000 euros) and Unicef ​​(the same amount), for the delivery of humanitarian aid and attention to the Population affected by the earthquake in Ecuador occurred last April 16 in Ecuador, specifically in the provinces of Manabi and Esmeraldas.
