The University of Murcia (UMU) has signed an agreement with the Foundation "La Caixa" for which it allocates 45,000 euros to finance activities of the Astrade Chair of Autism and Generalized Development Disorders of the educational institution.
Among these activities is the program in which the Chair of the UMU develops games specifically designed so that children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (TEA) can play with their classmates in the schoolyard.
To this end, the project of dynamic playgrounds and parks forms university students of recent years in the use of pictograms and in games adapted to, with the help of associations that provide educational support and teachers who wish to participate, work the inclusion of Children with ASD.
The director of the Chair, Professor Ildefonso Méndez, explained during the presentation of the agreement, held at the Rector's Office of the UMU, that the actual inclusion of these children can help prevent future adverse situations such as behavioral problems or Bullying
The program, which will be implemented in a pilot phase in fifteen centers of Infant and Primary Education, can be requested by any school with students with TEA at http://www.um.es/web/astrade-autismo
The event was attended by the initiator of the agreement signed, the Vice Chancellor of Economy, Sustainability and Health Sciences, José María Abellán, who highlighted the object of the agreement and the work of Professor Ildefonso Méndez in the Chair.
Likewise, the head of the UMU chairs, the Vice Chancellor of Transfer, Entrepreneurship and Employment, Francisca Tomás, who has put into value the results harvested by the Astrade Chair of Autism since its establishment in 2015.
For its part, the regional director of Andalusia Oriental and Murcia of the "La Caixa" Foundation, Juan Ignacio Zafra, has stated that the program fits perfectly with the objectives of this entity, which allocates a large part of its budget to the Projects for children with disabilities.
The presentation ceremony has been closed by the rector of the UMU, José Orihuela, who has pointed out that integration is a matter of great importance for the University of Murcia, not in vain, he said, this is the university with more students with Disability throughout the national territory.
