"The drafting of the Special Plan to Protect the Historical Site of Monteagudo and Cabezo de Torres will end next month and will be subject to public exposure," said José Ballesta.
In addition to the old mill for the manufacture of paprika, there are two remains of Arab wall and a garden of municipal ownership of about 5,000 square meters.
The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, accompanied by the councilman of Urbanism, Environment and Huerta, Antonio Navarro, visited today the Armero mill, a cataloged construction whose origins date back to the 17th century, which the City Council wants to recover, within the Special Plan Protection of Historic Site of Monteagudo and Cabezo de Torres, which will be ready and submitted to public exposure next month, "said José Ballesta.
We are studying different alternatives in this environment that is part of the historic site of Monteagudo, listed as a Property of Cultural Interest, which not only highlights the old mill for the manufacture of paprika, but also two remains of Arab wall and a garden owned Municipal area of about 5,000 square meters.
The Armero mill, where the traditional paprika manufacturing process was carried out for centuries, is one of the last water mills that has been in operation (its activity ceased some 15 years ago).
It used the channel of the ace of Churra la Vieja to move its teeth and stands out for being a singular element and one of the most characteristic hydraulic constructions of the Huerta de Murcia.
Both the historical part of the mill and its functional part (the implements of the paprika manufacturing process, seals, account books and historical material are preserved) are owned by the Armero family.
In the first step to initiate the action would be the transfer of the remains to the City Hall, from where a rehabilitation and consolidation project would be carried out, based on archaeological and historical studies that will also include the whole complex, integrated by the garden Of municipal ownership and the remnants of Arab wall.
In this sense, it should be noted that one of the lines of action that govern the Plan of Action of the Huerta de Murcia is the recovery and conservation of the hydraulic heritage and the recovery of historic mills.
For this reason, in addition to this infrastructure that the mayor and the councilman have visited today in Cabezo de Torres, the City Council works on the drafting of the mill of Love, in Albatalia, Batan, Zarandona, and the Gunpowder.
Advances the wording of the Special Plan
This environment is included within the Special Protection Plan of the Historical Site of Monteagudo and Cabezo de Torres, whose wording will end next month and includes Monteagudo Castle (King Lobo de Murcia), Castillejo de Monteagudo, and Larache And Cabezo de Torres;
As well as the properties of Molino del Armero, Almazara and Alberca de Larache, Albercon del Castillejo and ditches.
The Special Plan will contain the urban measures that must be adopted for its best protection, the relation of the values to be preserved and of all the assets to be protected.
To this end, conservation measures will be established, as well as the determination of the appropriate uses of the goods and proposals for intervention.
Likewise, specific ordinances will be drafted for the different areas that compose it.
It should be remembered that the City Council, through the Department of Urbanism, Environment and Huerta, works on various special plans such as Monteagudo and Cabezo de Torres, or the Malecon, which has already been presented.
