With the imposition of certain aesthetic canons by the media, women are despotically exposed to a barrage of retouched images that propose unreal beauty, which can only be accessed by invasive methods, such as surgery, with the risks That this entails.
This is one of the conclusions of the doctoral thesis realized by the painter Maria del Carmen Pérez Casanova in the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Murcia (UMU).
The new doctor adds that, in turn, that situation leads to some states of psychological violence that undermine women's self-esteem, to also comment that these "torturers" subject women.
The author of this research also points out that Western Christian culture has since its inception shaped a patriarchal society which, as a consequence of the logical evolution, has been drifting towards a defense situation articulated by the different feminist movements throughout history.
It also considers that when historical circumstances of defenselessness are overcome, others are created to maintain control on the part of the patriarchy.
The doctoral thesis, entitled "From santa and martyr to barbie girl", development of an expository discourse, adaptation of the artistic project to the exhibition space and research on materials ", was directed by UMU professors Francisco Javier Caballero Cano and Pedro Alberto Cruz Sánchez.
