The joint realization of activities aimed at promoting knowledge, study and research on contemporary art and culture is the subject of an agreement signed by the University of Murcia (UMU) and the Institute of Cultural and Arts Industries ( ICA).
The agreement, presented today at the Center for Documentation and Advanced Studies of Contemporary Art (Cendeac) by the rector of the University, José Orihuela, and the Minister of Culture, Noelia Arroyo, will materialize in the launch of the Master of Visual Culture Of the UMU.
Within this master's degree, promoted by the research group of the UMU "Visual Studies, Images, texts, contexts", only group of excellence in Humanities in the Region of Murcia, will be developed seminars and courses included in Cendeac programming.
In turn, the regional government will create training fellowships for the initiation of research, which will be annual and can be transmitted through the UMU through the above-mentioned excellence group.
The collaboration between the University of Murcia and the ICA will also impel the promotion of a new collection of Cendeac, which will be focused on small texts on visual culture and in which material linked to the masters will be published.
Finally, the journal Visual Studies, which emerged in the framework of Cendeac, will be relaunched.
The Minister of Culture and spokesperson of the regional government said during the presentation that all these actions "will contribute to improving the training of those who will be the professionals of the future, making available all the resources that promote excellence in this field."
Alejandro García Avilés, principal investigator of the UMU group, said that the agreement with Cendeac, "a center with a very important international prestige", aims to be "the beginning of a close collaboration in the Research, teaching and transfer of results to society ".
Finally, the Rector Orihuela has highlighted the seal of excellence of the Visual Studies group and thanked the Ministry for its help of 22,000 euros for the development of the master's degree.
