118 people have been served by the device launched by the City Council, through the Council of Social Rights, since Tuesday with the collaboration of NGOs, due to the cold wave.
During the three nights, 17 people used the Pavilion Cagigal, enabled during this low temperature storm, since most did not want to be transferred to emergency accommodation and 17 have spent the night in different pensions.
Specifically, last night assistance was provided to 43 people and another 10 were transferred to the Pavilion Cagigal.
On Wednesday night, 19 people were helped, of which 4 spent the night at the sports facility.
On Tuesday, 56 homeless people were served, and a total of 67 services were provided (accommodation, hot drinks, food, sleeping bags or blankets).
Both figures do not correspond since a single citizen could require more than one benefit.
3 people were transferred to the Cagigal Pavilion.
The special social care device for people in emergency situations, activated by the cold wave, kept the City Emergency, Mobile and Social Protection Emergency Service (SEMAS) staff on alert, who worked so hard Coordinated with Jesus Abandoned-Solidarity for Development, RAIS Foundation, which provide concerted emergency accommodation, as well as the Association of Rescue and Emergencies of Murcia (ASEMUR).
The SEMAS, which is part of the Department of Social Rights, is responsible for caring for homeless people who are in extreme situations, trying to promote their social integration.
441 remote control calls
On the other hand, the Home Tele-Assistance Service (Tunstall Televida) has kept on alert the device to prevent, minimize and attend to the effects that on the health of the users of the service can cause extreme temperatures.
On the occasion of the cold spell this week, 441 calls were made from the central office and 86 home visits to deliver the recommendations to deal with these days.
The interventions, carried out by a team of 38 people, have consisted of:
- Recommendations to avoid or reduce the impact of extreme temperatures on health: these recommendations are provided from the Central and are delivered to all users visited by tele-assistance service professionals (area coordinators, mobile units and technicians Installers).
- The website of the Spanish Meteorological Agency (AEMET) is permanently consulted from the central teleassistance center, transmitting advance information on the temperature forecasts indicating if there is any level of risk in each zone planned for that day (yellow, orange, Red) for both service professionals and users who want to know what time and temperature it will do, they will only have to make a call from their telecare terminal.
- Identification in the service database of the users most vulnerable to the effects of extreme temperatures according to socio-sanitary risk levels (risk 1, 2 and 3), which facilitates the intervention when it is necessary.
Of the 2,399 people currently benefiting from the service, 853 present some type of risk that makes them especially vulnerable to extreme temperature events, which represents 35% of the total.
Of these, 162 are at risk 1, 68 are at risk 2 and 5 face a higher level of risk.
