The Department of Development, directed by Roque Ortiz, Aguas de Murcia and Licuas SA, has allowed the acquisition of new vehicles that will improve efficiency and act more quickly in cleaning the sanitation network and scuppers throughout the municipality .
These new vehicles will be dedicated to the annual cleaning of more than 300 kilometers of sanitation network and 39,000 scuppers that Aguas de Murcia plans and coordinates in preventive works, cleaning of critical points of the network, actions in the period of intense rains like those carried out In recent years, corrective work and on-call services.
The machinery park consists of 6 trucks for network cleaning (in addition to an existing one), 4 light-duty scrubber scrubbers and 2 light vehicles for inspection and supervision of the service.
All of them have been labeled with an image designed specifically for the sanitation network of Murcia and with the slogan 'We care for the city'.
For this purpose, 1.5 million euros have been invested.
This will be used to clean up the 1,588 km of sewage network, the 49,304 water wells, 39,941 scuppers (14,644 in Murcia and 25,297 in districts), 68,356 connections and 188 pumping stations consisting of the sanitation network .
In addition, as corrective work, during the past year, 384 unbundling services were carried out in collectors and 538 services of atranques in rush.
The 18-ton, 9,000-liter tank truck and a 10-ton truck with greater accessibility to narrow streets combine high-vacuum and high-pressure suction, being able to disintegrate and haul through high pressure water and vacuum The sediments accumulated in the logging wells.
The lightweight water-lube vehicles are equipped with a 600 liter tank and a hose reel that allows the use of a water spray gun to clean scuppers and a breaker nozzle to remove clogs in small diameter pipes.
Aguas de Murcia and the company awarded the cleaning service of the sanitation network, Licuas, has a workforce of more than twenty workers, in double shift days and guard and lock services that are in charge of ensuring the proper functioning Of the network, using for this purpose this new machinery.
In choosing the vehicle fleet, technical criteria have been taken into account, so that active and passive truck safety, ergonomic conditions for operators or reduction of noise and vibration have been greatly improved.
In addition, new vehicles have more efficient engines, ensuring a reduction in CO2 emissions and the ability to improve performance in cleaning and inspection tasks.
The machinery park based in Murcia, is located just 6 kilometers from the offices of Aguas de Murcia located in Plaza Circular, allowing a quick response to the service.
The facilities, located in the Murcia Polígono Industrial Cabezo Cortao, have the necessary parking for the total fleet and more than 300 square meters of offices for the management of the service.
The most common causes of scupper obstruction are the entrainment of sediments, leaves, papers, and general grime, and the misuse that is made of them when used as litter bins.
To prevent this, awareness campaigns are carried out, a suitable design of the shape of the impoundment containment is installed, and internal baskets are used to separate the debris that may fall into the interior and facilitate the cleaning and extraction of waste.
The periodicity of the cleaning depends on the imbornal and its location.
Thus, monthly cleanings are carried out in areas such as markets, cleaned before the rainy season or if any notice, request or incident is received from any neighbor, and cleaned after extraordinary events with great attendance of people (parties, concerts, Holy Week processions ...)
In addition, a special cleaning of scuppers considered critical, which are located in flood areas in case of heavy rains.
From 2006 to 2016 has been progressively increased the cleaning of these scuppers from 12,749 cleanings to 44,321.
