Juan Cuello Moreno, professor of Plant Physiology at the University of Murcia (UMU), has donated 20,000 euros to the teaching institution for the financing of aid to students with outstanding records and who lack economic resources.
These grants, whose conditions will be outlined in the subsequent call, will go to students who start UMU science degrees during the next course.
Specifically, in the degrees of Biology, Biotechnology, Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Computer Engineering and Mathematics.
Convinced that "education and science are the keys to our future," Professor Cuello has donated this amount, from his savings, "for students with good records that according to official aid are excluded," since he believes That it is "a pity that people who have the capacity and the will to make a university career stay by the way".
This initiative is also for Cuello "shows respect and appreciation for the teaching and research that is carried out at the University of Murcia", institution in which this teacher has developed his long professional career.
The donation document was initialed in an event held in the Convalecencia building before the rector of the University, José Orihuela.
The rector has said that with Professor Juan Cuello we are before "a singular case, which is likely to mark a turning point," because this time the donation comes from personal savings.
"You are giving a huge example, while it is impressive the illusion you still have because the students are formed in the best possible way," concluded Orihuela.
