The University of Murcia (UMU) today signed with the City of Molina de Segura the agreement that formalizes the collaboration of the educational institution in the program that promotes healthy living habits in schoolchildren of the municipality with obesity and overweight.
The program improves the health of children between 5 and 10 years old based on physical exercises designed and developed by the teacher of the Faculty of Sports Sciences of UMU Pilar Sainz de Baranda and a group of collaborators of the university center.
The professor emphasized during the signing ceremony, held at the headquarters of the Rector of the UMU, in which "the health of schoolchildren does not have a good grade and that is something that should concern us."
"We are doing what the University should do, because science tells us that good health, good physical condition, gives us better academic performance," he added.
The mayor of Molina de Segura, Esther Clavero, said that it is "a very important program that teaches children to have a healthy life combining sports and health" and that "it comes to narrow the synergies we have That create the city councils with the University ".
The rector of the UMU, Jose Orihuela, has delved into this idea, stating that this agreement is a good example of "two public administrations that shake hands for the welfare of society, in this case the children of 5 to 10 years ".
The signing of the agreement was also attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Sports Sciences, Arturo Díaz, who thanked the City of Molina de Segura for the trust he has placed in the center he runs.
In addition to the UMU and the municipality of Murcia, the Virgen de la Arrixaca University Hospital and the Foundation for Health Training and Research of the Region of Murcia (FFIS) collaborate in the "Health Program 5-10: Healthy Children, Happy Adults" .
