The rector of the University of Murcia (UMU), José Orihuela, today offered the support of this institution in the fight for transparency and against corruption.
This offer was made at the opening ceremony of the First Conference on Challenges for a Transparent Society held in the Paraninfo, where he referred to a report on the UN Convention on Corruption, Figures that each year are dedicated to bribes in the world, which are well above the amounts that are destined to the development of the most disadvantaged countries.
The Rector has also pointed out that corruption affects us all and that we must all participate in eradicating it from society, and referring to Education, has stressed that it is necessary to go to re-education in a different way of thinking.
For Orihuela, from the educational institution society must be encouraged to move in the line of transparency.
In addition, he has commented, the UMU resolutely bets on ethics and participation, referring to the Code of Ethics that already has participatory budgets.
"A sustainable future is not possible without transparency," he concluded.
The president of the Transparency Council, José Molina, has stated that governance is a matter for all and that a new way of understanding politics is needed, so that the rulers are prudent in their promises and comply with them, without Forget the need for exemplary attitudes.
Molina has commented that in a global world, transparency must be an objective of all.
The opening act has been closed by the president of the Autonomous Community, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, who has referred to the main measures approved by the government that presides to avoid corruption.
Thus, he said, of the commitments contained in the agreement signed last March only remains to meet the one referred to the approval of the law of good governance and public ethics.
He has also referred to other actions, such as those relating to participatory budgets, the network of citizen participation, which already has the accession of 22 municipalities, soon to be thirty, or the open school of government.
The opening session was also attended by the Minister of the Presidency of the Autonomous Government, María Dolores Pagán, among other authorities, along with several members of the governing team of the UMU.
The seminars, organized by the UMU and the Council of Transparency of the Region of Murcia, will be developed throughout the day and counted yesterday, as a preamble of the same, with a series of workshops.
