Urbelac, the Urban Network for Knowledge Transfer, is an initiative promoted by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy and the Inter-American Development Bank with the aim of promoting sustainable development in cities in Europe and Latin America .
"The promotion of integrated sustainable urban development is a key element of European policy. The EU has launched its Europe 2020 strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth and in Murcia we are referring to the adoption of integrated and sustainable measures and approaches to development Urban and Smart City, "explained Guillén
For this reason, the European Commission has selected Murcia to present in its Urbelac Network its Strategy Murcia Smart City (MiMurcia project).
"This way we consolidate our model of intelligent city as a reference of other cities of the world that like Bordeaux, Milan, Athens and Viseu are present in the international meeting that is being held in Buenos Aires," continued the councilman.
The Urbelac Network seeks to improve the quality of life of Latin American cities by promoting sustainable and comprehensive urban development by identifying innovative policies and programs.
The idea of this network program goes in two ways.
On the one hand, URBELAC seeks to facilitate the exchange of information, good practices and lessons learned on sustainable and integrated urban practices and policies, contributing to a learning process based on concrete examples and best practices.
In addition, the network-program proposes to support cities in identifying concrete and immediate actions that have an impact on local sustainable urban development and associated policies.
Urbelac is a valuable tool available to cities to identify ideas and solutions to specific problems through the exchange of experiences and the transmission of knowledge that have encouraged and improved the process of implementing specific actions in all areas.
This initiative is also facilitating learning among city leaders and professionals through technical seminars and workshops.
This second meeting, which is being held in Buenos Aires, has begun to work on the conceptualization and design of a specific Plan of Action.
