The University of Murcia (UMU) has established awards that will recognize researchers from the institution who have excelled in the development of projects and actions to transfer knowledge and research results in collaboration with companies.
These prizes, promoted by the Vice-Rectorate of Transfer, Entrepreneurship and Employment, together with the Social Council of the UMU and the Ministry of Education and Universities, may choose the researchers from the University of Murcia who have led activities to transfer knowledge and results of Investigation formalizing contracts with companies throughout the year 2015.
The call foresees ten awards of 2,500 euros each;
Eight of them for teachers who lead the billing ranking and contracts signed during 2015 in the areas of Sciences and Engineering, Health Sciences, Art and Humanities and Social and Legal Sciences.
The remaining two awards will go to researchers who in 2015 have led knowledge transfer activities for the first time.
Of the total economic allocation, which amounts to 25,000 euros, 10,000 have been contributed by the Social Council, 5,000 by the Ministry and the remaining 10,000 by the Campus Mare Nostrum (CMN) and the aforementioned Vice-Rectorate.
The call, which will be published shortly and resolved before the end of this year, was presented by the coordinator of the Office of Transfer of Research Results (OTRI) of the University, Antonio Montes, during an event held in the office Of the President of the Social Council, Javier Ruano, in which he has constituted the public farewell of this as the main authority of the representative body of the society in the UMU.
The Minister of Education and Universities, Maribel Sánchez-Mora, in her speech during the event, praised the initiative, "because the way the regional productive system goes forward is encouraging research."
Sánchez-Mora had words of thanks to Ruano for his work on the Social Council, not only in the two years and means in which he has held the presidency, but also in the previous ten in which he served as secretary of this body.
The rector of the UMU, José Orihuela, stressed that the important thing about the prize is not the economic amount, but they provide an incentive for researchers who transfer knowledge to society, in addition to a recognition of the companies that consider the University Of Murcia as a strategic partner.
He also said that the momentum and dynamism have characterized the stage of Javier Ruano at the head of the Social Council, to which he thanked for the support he always found in him in difficult times, among which he cited the process for Implementation of the multiannual financing plan.
The president of the Social Council, for his part, has shown reciprocal gratitude to the rector - "with Jose Orihuela I have been very supportive", he said, "of which he has praised his commitment to the transfer of knowledge.
This theme, he affirmed, has been one of the main challenges of its proceedings in the Social Council, as reflected in the Plan of Action of this body after noting the concern of the university community in this regard.
Ruano has closed the ceremony stating that all his performances in the Social Council for more than 12 years "have always been for the good of the University of Murcia."
