The Governing Board has approved the project and specifications for the execution of a segregated one-way bike lane joining Avenida Juan Carlos I and Ronda Sur, running along the avenues of Murcia, Miguel Induráin and Los Dolores.
This new bicycle lane will occupy one of the three lanes of traffic currently reserved for traffic in each direction, so that, after the works are executed, the avenue will be configured by four lanes of traffic and two exclusive for bicycles.
The bike lane will run so it is currently the outer road lane in each direction and will be separated from the traffic by means of recycled plastic elements with reflective bands 9 centimeters high.
In addition, to give greater visibility will also install red bollards of photoluminescent rubber that will be a visual barrier for motor vehicles.
All existing intersections are gazebo type and will be signalized to allow the crossing of cyclists through an exclusive stage for them.
This way, the bike lanes of Juan Carlos I Avenue, Don Juan de Borbón avenue and the one on the left bank of the Segura River will be connected.
The execution of the works, in which more than 788,000 euros will be invested and which will have an execution period of 4 months, will be carried out in sections to avoid excessive discomfort to the road traffic.
This new section is part of the project of the Network of Bike Trails of 20 kilometers completely segregated and connected to each other and is added to the 2.5 kilometers of the cycle path of the motorcycle of the river Segura as it passes through the urban center of the city of Murcia, which in August was published in the BORM for recruitment
