The City Council has published a guide that includes 20 health promotion programs aimed especially at educational and social groups to disseminate the benefits of a balanced diet, practice of exercise and decrease the risk factors associated with alcohol abuse and consumption , Tobacco and other drugs.
The Mayor, José Ballesta, presented this morning to the students of CEIP Nuestra Señora del Carmen the offer of activities that they have at their disposal to "acquire habits that will allow them to enjoy a fuller, healthier life and with a higher quality."
Each school year, the educational, social and health centers have at their disposal an updated edition of the Guide to Health Promotion Programs that annually elaborates the Municipal Health Services of the City of Murcia, which collects in an orderly manner all Actions and plans aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles
The objective of this new guide is to facilitate both information and access to programs for different social groups.
The average participation figures per year are about 120 schools, in which about 20,000 children and 257 teachers attend the various workshops and activities.
About 7,000 people, whether children, young people, adults or older people, are involved in community programs.
The Mayor, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Sports and Health, Felipe Coello, and accompanied by the director, Ascensión Paterna, and the head of studies, Mª Carmen Navarro, visited CEIP Nuestra Señora del Carmen, whose students 6º B has presented the new publication.
Protection against risks
With this initiative, it is a matter of transmitting to the students the "knowledge, values ​​and attitudes that can serve as protection against some risk situations that may be submitted in the future," explained the Mayor.
To do this, it is essential to communicate "healthy attitudes, values ​​and habits of life, inform them about the consequences of the consumption of certain substances and provide the adolescent with the necessary skills to adequately cope with social influences that incite bad health practices."
The program guide is distributed to educational, social and health centers, making available to the citizens an offer of Health Promotion programs, specially designed for the educational community and social groups, aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles: food Balanced, physical exercise and decrease risk factors associated with alcohol, tobacco and other drugs abuse and consumption.
Among the programs to prevent drug use and abuse is "The Adventure of Life" "Ordago", "Retomemos", "Telepatio", "Workshops of social competence:" I have my place in society I want to be useful! ", Exhibitions such as" The Other Gaze of the Young "," No Turn of the Leaf "and" What are the drugs?

Alternatives to free time
To promote the formation and change of attitudes towards healthy life forms, to develop social skills (empathy, assertiveness, decision making ...) providing them with resources to face the different situations that can arise in life and offer information on topics such as food, physical activity , Risks of drug abuse and abuse are some of the objectives pursued by the Municipal Health Services with the elaboration of this offer of activities for minors.
The various alternatives for participation also aim to offer options for occupying leisure time and avoiding initiation of drug use.
In the case of adults, the purpose of the proposals is to train them as mediators in the prevention of harmful habits for the health of minors, in addition to encouraging the development of behavioral habits that favor healthy lifestyles.
At the same time, participation in these activities by older people aims to improve the family's educational capacity, prevent all kinds of social risks and improve the diet of groups at risk, promoting the consumption of foods in the Mediterranean diet, among others.

Participation in any of these programs is open to society as a whole.
The technicians of the municipal health services carry out the planning, management and development of the guide, which is sent to the educational, health and social centers of the municipality at the beginning of the school year, although it is also disseminated through the website : Www.ayuntamientomurcia-salud.es, via email and social networks.
