The area recovers 2,500 meters of pedestrian spaces and will be surrounded around its perimeter by a steel railing that will guarantee the visibility of the archaeological enclave.
A strip of ornamental lighting embedded in the floor will be installed in line with the railing.
The Governing Board approved this morning the project of the works relating to the pedestrian conditioning of the environment of the San Esteban site.
The Government Team wants to provide maximum transparency to this archaeological site so that Murcia and visitors can know in situ and first hand the development of works to recover the deposit.
Thus, the current fence will be replaced by a steel railing of 1.10 meters high, set back 1 meter from the head of slope of the excavation, so as to allow the visibility of the deposit, thus opening the space to anyone who crosses Around the area.
In addition, this action, which has a budget of 309,000 euros, will recover for the pedestrian the perimeter space, allowing to improve visibility and accessibility, as well as road safety for both vehicles and pedestrians.
In total, 2,500 square meters of areas are recovered for pedestrians, of which 1,600 are in the perimeter of the Palace, which are repaired and opened for use, and the remaining 900 are newly created sidewalks, which existed prior to excavation , Were demolished by it.
The works, which have a planned execution period of two months, consist of the recovery of existing pavement in the perimeter of the Palacio de San Esteban, as well as the construction of new sidewalks in the streets of Jerónimo de Roda, Portillo de San Antonio and Callejón Burruezo.
Similarly, the existing space on the facade of the Palacio de San Esteban, whose area is paved, will be opened to pedestrian traffic, but it has some deficiencies that will be remedied.
The project also contemplates the continuation of the existing sidewalk in Callejón Burruezo to the intersection with Jerónimo de Roda Street, with the same characteristics, type of pavements and tonalities that exist in the recently reformed section of the Callejón, included between the Church of San Miguel and the archaeological site of San Esteban.
Finally, a perimeter pavement of 2.20 meters wide, next to the margin of the deposit, will be constructed in the streets Jeronimo de Roda and Portillo de San Antonio that allows to recover for the pedestrian the accessible itinerary of the zone facilitating the pedestrians Displacement and improving safety.
New lighting, with more power and lower consumption
The performance in the environment is complemented by a comprehensive renovation of the lighting system, which will provide greater power and, at the same time, a lower consumption than the current one.
Specifically, the actions foreseen in the lighting of the perimeter of the deposit consist of:
- In the surrounding streets between Acisclo Díaz and Burruezo, the installation of public lighting will be maintained, changing in the luminaires the ignition equipment and the existing lamp for another one of Metal Halide, in order to unify the lighting systems and improve The chromatic reproduction index.
- In the pedestrian zone located between the site and the Palacio de San Esteban will repair and paint the existing columns of 4 meters, replacing existing luminaires with other 47 W LEDs.
- In line with the railing that is to be installed a LED strip embedded in the floor to a depth of 6 cm and a width of 2.5 cm, RGB type (programmable color), 24 V and 12 W per meter.
The electric power at the end of the performance will be 11,000 w (compared to the current, 7,380 w), with an annual energy consumption of just over 29,000 kwh, which is a reduction of 6.76% over current consumption .
An information circuit will also be created, between Acisclo Diaz Street and Portillo de San Antonio, in order that Murcia and visitors can have permanent information and direct knowledge of the recovery process.
All these actions will be carried out under the agreement with the Autonomous Community, with the relevant authorizations, being an area of cultural interest and with the supervision of external observers.
Another provisional work is the renewal of the elements of protection of the deposit as a provisional measure and with the objective of ensuring the maintenance and stability of the archaeological enclave, with the clearing, cleaning and renovation of the geotextile layer.
These works, whose budget amounts to 93,109 euros and whose execution period is four months, will be awarded at the beginning of the year.
At the moment the Master Plan of San Esteban is in the evaluation phase of the 8 offers presented, finalizing the valuation to proceed to its immediate adjudication.
From that moment the winning company will have nine months to write the Master Plan.
